Podcast on hearing voices with Dr Eric Morris

Check out this episode of the @lifesdirtylittlesecrets podcast with Dr Eric Morris of La Trobe University.

In this episode Eric challenges the status quo of unusual experiences, like hearing voices. He highlights how common these experiences actually are and the importance of how we relate to them.

Eric states "those experiences aren't necessarily wrong or bad, they're sort of part of the heritage we all have as human beings. And the interesting thing to know is we all have a propensity

towards having unusual experiences like this.... experiences of people

hearing voices, seeing things... is as old as there have been human beings"

He goes on to discuss how modern and particularly Western ideas about hearing voices being can lead to stigma and shame being attached to these experiences. He highlights that "it's not the presence of these experiences that may be problematic as what they mean for someone... whether they are supported by the communities you're in, or whether they're seen as signs of, of difference that stigma and shame may be attached to".

He goes on to discuss an acceptance based approach to living alongside unusual experiences, that he has pioneered, and how this can help people.
